While I generally loathe arguing online with strangers, I do enjoy anonymously correcting people when they wrong. So here goes:

First off, that song was on her debut album released in 2006, so you got me. While I cannot comment on when the actual song was written, she was in fact, sixteen when it was released to the public. My original claim that she was 15 was an outright fabrication, and I should not have stated such an erroneous fact without checking on it first. My deepest apologies.

Secondly, while the use of the line was clearly meant as an insult, I believe that it was used in proper context (as opposed to just calling something gay because you don't like it), and was rather appropriate on top of that. In the high-schools of Tennessee where it was written, and among the albums core demographic, the idea of a male being accused of being gay was a pretty serious threat. So if (according to the song) she was being threatened with the possibility of everyone being told that she is obsessive and crazy, a counter threat of this sort is acceptable in that particular community.

I am a full supporter of stopping hate and intolerance, but I am far more interested in people being able to have a sense of humor about "sensitive subjects." Everyone who understands basic logic will know that this particular lolbrary post has nothing to do with the perceived hypocrisy of Taylor Swift, because if that were in fact the case it would be far more pertinent to be pissed at Ken Davitian. He is part of the NOH8 campaign, and yet, has done far more to demoralize the gay culture (though his crimes are very funny, and IMHO in very good taste). This is clearly an opportunistic stab at Taylor herself and not anything she's done personally, because the internet tells us that we should hate certain things because the people who like them are people we don't get along with.

We are told to hate all of these things like Taylor Swift, Twilight, Justin Bieber, Nickelback and many (many) others, because they are bad art(ists), but in reality, they aren't as bad as we are led to believe, it is only that we aren't their target audience and so we must rebel against them as though they have slighted us by not appealing to our tastes. The fact that there are those of us who would on one hand call out Twilight, Justin Bieber and Nickelback as being "gay" things, and with the other chastise Taylor Swift for saying the word "gay" once as a teenager in front of a microphone (while using it in a perfectly acceptable context) is indicative of the kind of H8 that this campaign is trying to stop.

Fuck yeah. If anybody writes something that's possibly offensive when they were fifteen years old, they can never support anything related to it ever again.

While I mostly agree with pretty much everything said here so far, the only real inaccuracy is that this particular clip was scripted and used in a story arc for the show. No Jeff's were harmed during the filming of this GIF.

If I were a christian who was afraid that so many people in the world weren't buying what the bible is selling, I would use scare tactics like this to get them to believe in my god through fear. But that doesn't lessen the awesomeness of Paul Harvey.
