Ya, but if you do that without stirring, then it all gets stuck to the bottom. I've done that too! Haha, I had a lot of bad cooking experiences when I was a kid. Luckily I've never burned a boiling pot of water!
I do the "just twirl the pot round a bit...."

If I'm forced to use a smaller pot, I just break the noodles in half before putting them in the pot. Seemed like the next logical step to me and it works every time.
