Anyone else still fighting the good fight? Or have we all truly lost the war?
I lost last night :/
Same... stupid facebook.
Me too... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO all hope looks to be lost.
You were never on both sides anyway.
Is that a NEDM reference?
Edit: Ohhhhh I got it, like in last man standing.
Fear not fellow citizens for I have not even succumbed to this infection named Facebook. I shall pick up where bill left off and carry the intelligence torch where it needeth be taken!
I deactivated my account yesterday.. the change was ment to happen today..
Sorry to hear that comrade.
That's what she said
I don't understand why everyone is in such an uproar about timeline. I don't think it's that bad--and is actually kind of neat. I guess maybe people are just averse to change?
Personally I just think it looks confusing. You can't just look down the page, you have to keep looking left and right, and left, and right, etc.
I feel the same, there is no logical order to it, but then again maybe they are targeting the majority of users who have no logical thinking process to speak of.
It's essentially a timeline (hence the name timeline) with the line in the middle of the page and arrows pointing to the point on the line in which the event happened chronologically. Personally I remember learning how to read a timeline in 1st grade history.
There is definitely logical order. Follow the line down the middle of the page. You get used to it.
Logical Order ≠ Good Design.
I never said it was a good design. But you get used to it. If not, go elsewhere or write your own social networking site.
Maybe I will, with blackjack... and hookers.
Exactly. It's piss poor UX/UI.
I like the picture bit it has, but I hate the layout. It's too cramped!
And on principal! They said "do you want timeline?" I said "no" so why are they now forcing it on people? It's rude!
I'm actually wondering that myself. Why not let people personalize their Facebook. They could have it both ways. I don't know man.
the dual columns take some time to adjust to, but i like being able to have a cover photo. its rad.
I joined their ranks months ago, in hopes of destroying it from the inside. But I was overcome with confusing wall posts, and disoriented.
couple weeks ago..
It forced me in on the 16th.
I was involuntarily upgraded at about the same time. The battle is over, the good guys lost.
I had noticed my sitemate still had her old Facebook... then she told me Wednesday that she'd been given her notice. It's like reinstating the draft...
still no timeline but I think not using facebook at all since like a week after it came out counts as cheating
Stay strong, brother.
I'm still fighting. I don't know how much longer I can go though
well... FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUCCCKKKKK FACEBOOK!!!!!!
How bout this. FUCK FACEBOOK!!
Sure many loathe timeline, but is it enough to make a majority of the cynics leave? Not a chance. I've met people with cancer that complain less than those who bitch about timeline.
Of course we won't leave since there is no good alternative. Google plus is designed much better, but the #1 feature of any social network is people. Google plus doesn't have enough users yet to be a serious threat to facebook. I say yet because in 5 years I suspect google plus will be a serious contender if not the facebook killer.
But don't you think for a second that people are loyal to facebook. Most people hate facebook the company and mark zuckerberg because of the way facebook treats everyone like shit (regarding privacy etc). Without loyalty, facebook's users will be gone the second a true alternative shows up.
Personally I like both Facebook and Google+. Both have their pros and cons. It just seems kind of hypocritical to hate the mechanics of a social network then continue to use it anyway. A truly good alternative would be to pick up the phone and call, text, picture mail or email your friends (those who actually care). One benefit is that you don't have to think about censoring everything you compose. I understand that Facebook and other social networks just make it easier to broadcast things though.
That's a nice idea.
You know, except if you're organising events for people all around the UK, where you don't have their number or email. Plus, if you're trying to organise something you need responses.
To put it simpler; I used a forum to first organise a cosplay group. It did well for getting people interested, however it became really difficult really quickly to organise what costumes, where to get fabric and what to do on that forum. So I made a FB group for it; we sorted it out within the first hour.
The difference is that it's instant like a chat. The forum, although great, doesn't offer live updates.
So it's all well and good, saying move off if you don't like facebook, but it's nigh impossible to organise something for people that live everywhere in the UK without it.
"It just seems kind of hypocritical to hate the mechanics of a social network then continue to use it anyway."
Not necessarily, just because I wish something was better doesn't mean I should abandon it completely.
I lost.....the game
still dont have timeline!
it happened to me too! :[
