Sold to what?
People who desire to advertise to you, for one. People who desire information about you, for another perhaps.
Welcome to the world of business!
I have never bought anything through Facebook...
Exactly. You're not the customer. You're the product. Burgers don't buy anything at McDonald's.
I've never seen an ad on facebook. I suppose the rest of the world hasn't quite figured out adblockers?
On a serious note. Are there supposed to be ads on facebook? I've honestly never seen one and don't get how they make their money without ads, even tho they make their money from ads.
Yeah, but usually they're on the right hand side of facebook. But they're not that aggressive. You know, similar to how Lolbrary and such is like.
lolbrary has ads? maybe I should whitelist it for my adblocker. I can't control the adblocker at work. but I'll have to check when I get home.
Sorry, it use to have a banner ad. I didn't notice they had got rid of them XD
Used to* >.< sorry, pet peeve.
Ah, yush. Need to proof read more (then again, I have no free time to myself at my dad's!!! Half a minute on the internet when nothing is going on and I get scolded!)
woot, adblocker! amirite?
You are, in fact, rite.
But how the hell am I being sold? I don't have any of me details on Facebook either.
Essentially, what I'm saying is this is stupid. They can't "sell" people (information or otherwise) to anyone else without getting sued. They can sell Facebook, but not your details.
Most people on Facebook are tracked through their actions (foursquare, status updates, even the information they put in their profile) This is then sold to companies. The companies use this information to better market products and track demographic interests. From everything you "like" to everything you say, you are being tracked. Sorry to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but you didn't actually think Zuckerburg got insanely wealthy from farmville did you?
Exactly, in essence, it's profiling. That then gets sent to google which then can track your IP and all those ads by google bars then will appeal to you.
So not you specifically, then. Most people have their info on there, which is sold. Its a cute comparison is all.
How cute, dawwwww! °0o.o0°
I'm guessing this was originally intended as a reference to socialism.
still fits like a glove, not every pig is from Animal Farm though.
That's kinda creepy!
