That's the least of her parenting problems.

Her biggest problem is that she's a shitty parent.

More and more genetic discoveries are suggesting that the behavior of children is a lot more related to their genes than the parenting they had. This little girl is probably a skank just because her mom was.

Nature VS Nurture all over again.

Just want to point out that while sexuality is encouraged, sexual reproduction is demonized.

Sexuality is fine, dressing and dancing provocatively is not.

We had discos at my school, I dressed and danced provocatively and I didn't end up pregnant. I have no problem with teenagers wearing short skirts and low cut tops or whatever as long as 1) they don't look like complete sluts 2) they aren't idiots who go behind the bike sheds to copulate with the first person who comes on to them.

To be fair, (I'm going by the feeling you're around the same age as me) when we were kids boys weren't so interested in girls. Girls danced with girls, guys with guys.

Well, we all danced together, but it was such a small school that if we had got off with each other it would have been weird. That's not to say there wasn't the occasional slut who sucked face with the guys. I just wasn't one of them.

What I was trying to get at is that the mother thinks it's cute that her little girl is into "popping" her booty and wearing short skirts. The reason it's cute is because the little girl has no concept of what they mean. She just knows that such behavior garners attention. The problem is, some girls never do fully understand it, but it is a source of approbation for them in society.

So doing all that without understanding why and just doing it because people like you for it... that is pretty much a whore, right?

It's different if the person doesn't really understand, but if you're still don't understand what you're doing by the age of 13 then you must have your eyes closed.

However, putting kids in micro minis is stupid.

I get what you're saying.

How many people lost their virginity in high school? (or would have if someone actually gave them the chance?) Yet when someone gets pregnant we shun them. In reality, one "opps" and that could have been any of us.

I don't mean the MTV teen moms. From what I understand, they really try to play up the trash on those shows.

I thought part of the problem was that abstinence gets all the attention while safe sex gets pushed to the sidelines somewhat? As in people are having sex that aren't educated enough to avoid the consequences.

I agree. I feel you're actually supporting my statement.

Teens are too embarrassed or scared to get birth control because of the negative stigma abstinence only education creates. So they take the risks and only when they reach a point where it can't be hidden anymore, like pregnancy, do they get help because they can no longer keep it a secret.

I was just adding what I (thought) knew about the situation in america to it. Wasnt really sure if you'd agree :D

While I agree with this, giving your teenager birth control at an early age is, in my opinion ridiculous. It's like saying, ok you're cool out you go and have sex. I feel that once a kid knows about babies and where they come from they should be told that birth control will only be allowed once they're over the age of consent.

Which also makes sense. Unfortunately, when the guardians and teachers are saying "Sex is wrong," but the media is using it to sell EVERYTHING (clothes, music, movies) then the teens are just learning "sex is cool" and "Don't tell Mom."

I say this because one of my really close friends was put on the contraceptive bar when she was 14. Her mother thinks that having a boyfriend is important. I feel that it's how a person is raised and how close they are to their parents that dictates how responsible they are during their teens. Anyone I know who had a baby at an early age or was sexually active from their early teens came from a family where no one gave a shit or that behavior was what they grew up with. I'm not saying that's how it is for everyone, It's just my opinion from observing those around me. I originally come from a small village in Ireland and from my primary school class there is myself and one other girl who don't have children. I'm only 21. I kinda feel like I narrowly escaped a weird fertility cult in which the members are impregnated early to please the harvest gods. :P

Ya, those are the type of parents who probably contributed.

I graduated in 2006. When I was in high school I think half the school or more claimed they participated in sexual activity. Who hooked up with who was basically the best gossip every Monday morning. These kids came from all walks of life. Strict parents and "easy" parents; AP classes and the barely graduating. Since sexual protection isn't always 100% perfect, some girls got pregnant. That's just the downfall of statistics. If contraceptives are 99%, 1 in 100 will probably get pregnant. There were four pregnant girls in my class and nobody saw it coming with two of them.

"About 46 percent of teens have had sexual intercourse." (CDC, 2009)

In conclusion, abstinence only education isn't productive if half of the teens in 2009 were having sex.

2012 info isn't out yet but I'm sure it's not going to say "Only kids who had parents who allowed sex got pregnant."

Church and state aren't fully separated, it's in charge of most schools. So..... yeah... lol. My mother and grandmother had to travel to the north of Ireland (it's part of Britain and follows British law)to get contraceptive because it was illegal here until 1980.

Sexuality is fine when it is age appropriate. This comic shows a parent sexualizing her kid at inappropriate ages.
