The first is illegal because people want it to be legal but unregulated, the second is legal becuase it is regualted, the regulations for health safety.

porn is regulated? Google "amateur porn" and prepare to get a billion results. Those people aren't signing any forms or getting any tests, just fucking, filming, and uploading.

The paid idustry with actors is, which is more what is being argued here.

still not regulated enough, health of the actors apparently isn't a very high priority for example. I think the problem is that it still isn't a socially approved line of work. The public likes to pretend that it isn't really there, so the goverment doesn't really have a reason to give it the attention it needs.

Even your post isn't particularly approving of either and all that attitude does is perpetuate the problem.

edit: :(

But hey, very recently, I want to say this past election, California, one of the biggest states for the industry, made condoms a requirement via ballots.

Another thing we should apply the lesson we learned from the prohibition to. That and marijuana.

In the Netherlands, prostitution is legal. This means that prostitutes are safe and not abused in anyway, and, more importantly, not afraid of going to the police.

lol, truth gets downvoted. I will add though, that we currently have a human trafficking problem that is hurting the legitimacy of said prostitution.

We're having trouble with it because our borders are open(EU) so we can't filter them out effectively. Working on upping the regulations on it though, so hopefully it'll get sorted out in a couple of years.

PS: This doesn't mean that our entire system is currently broken, just that consumers should look out that the prostitutes they deal with are actually professionals.

People can't deal with the idea of it being legal. It makes sense to legalise something which is happening anyway. That way, it's easier to regulate. Like, I imagine many of the prostitutes in the UK are illegal immigrants or people who have been dragged over from other countries, willingly or not. But no-one cares about prostitutes.

Yeah, and openEUborderness always means that human trafficking is an issue. It needs to be tight enough to stop it from happening, but loose enough not to offend other countries XD

its good for the economy because trucks can just keep going and not have all their stuff checked every border. And it's also nice for tourists I guess.

But for a country like mine it's not super awesome aside from that. Need an extensive license and 2 separate safes to own a gun(2nd one for the ammo)? Why not cross the border into Belgium and just buy one at a hunting store instead? The reverse is true for Belgians and [soft] drugs ofc.

I think the only way to get rid of the trafficking problem in Europe would be to make it almost impossible to do anything with said people in your country. That way "importing" them has no profit, wouldn't really help with people being moved through your country though. That and equalizing the wealth across Europe, but that will probably take decades.

Remember this. There are NO laws for having sex with a prostitute. Only laws pertaining to being with one.

I don't know. I was looking up prostitution laws one day after reading a report that Canada legalized it, so I got curious about what the prostitution laws are in the U.S.

Sounds like they are pretty grey. I would worry more how the law is interpreted and enforced than what it actually says.

Yeah, interpretation is more important that the text itself. (Cue all religions).

If it was so clear-cut, than law-suits would be a lot easier to resolve. That, and things like constitutions, aren't always black and white.

Porn is legal because the government gets their money from it, prostitution will be legal when they find a find a way to get a cut of money from that. I don't believe they care all that much about health.
