Or Nelson becomes a genius in the future and invents a time machine, and sends himself back in time, but ends up losing his memory and only remembers english and comes up with the name "Barney".......

Nelson has a father, he left one day to buy smokes and never came back. There's an episode somewhere in seasons 17-19 where his dad comes back, but only for that episode.

But it is funny, never noticed the resemblance before.
