Faith in hip hop? There have been no redeeming qualities of hip hop for the last 10 years.

10 yrs? That's generous.

College Dropout and Late Registration came out in 2004-05.

Kanye is a douche but those were solid albums.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is an amazing album as well if you haven't listened to it. And I'm glad that you accept that people don't have to be nice to make good music. A lot of the times, the fact that they are a dick makes them a great artist.

There's lots of asshole artists that are great. Lennon and Noah Gallagher quickly come to mind.

I've heard the singles off of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (and I really enjoy them) but not too much of the rest of the album. Though I think my gf has it so I've probably heard all the songs here and there. I've been pretty burnt on hip hip recently and have been listening to a lot of folk and electronica as of late. It's funny I burnt myself out of florence and the machine last year, but now it seems to be all I'm listening to again :P

The whole albums pretty great, especially the tracks 'So Appalled' and 'Hell of a Life'.

That album was actually the first hip hop that I really listened to. Before then I had been pretty much just listening to rock and metal, but Kanye really opened up a lot for me. I've also been digging a lot of folk and electronic recently. I'm really glad that I expanded my tastes, because there was SO much music out there that I was missing out on.

because there was SO much music out there that I was missing out on.

This will never change XD

What folk/electronica are you listening too right now. I'll check it out if I am not already.

In terms of folk, Bon Iver is really great. Their first album is incredibly emotional, and their second one isn't too bad either.

In terms of electronica, I like Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and XXYYXX. There's also this great new group called Death Grips, which is almost like hardcore rap mixed with electronic beats.

These groups probably don't fall specifically under 'electronica', though. I'm fairly new to electronic music so please excuse any discrepancies haha.

I've been listening to a ton of bon iver the past 6 months. I'll haven't heard of the others so I'll definitely check them out.

Trust me, I'm not a music snob at all :-D

Seriously, it just cracks me up when people say that music sucks these days. Now more than ever it's easier to discover new music, but people choose to bitch and gripe about the 1% of music that is over-played by mainstream radio.

Well, people love to complain. That will never change (guilty as charged too).

I think technology has made it easier than ever to access good music. However, the music industry is at an all time low in regards to quality of music because the record companies have realized that disposable music leads to higher profits. That is, if you want something to be quickly popular it has to be quickly digestible and enjoyable by a wide audience.

In other words, popular music has to be rather bland and boring. "Just good enough" to appeal to a lot of people in order to reach a wide market. Even worse, it actually behooves the music industry to make simple music that is really catchy but gets old quickly because creating disposable product is a great way to increase revenue. People have to buy more product since the product loses its luster quickly.

However, that's just the shit being marketed to you. Like you said, it's never been easier to actually find good music that you enjoy. But that takes a bit of effort.

Lastly, I think people just like to complain about pop music because it's so easily relatable to complain about. It's like how in school everyone bitches about homework. Of course homework sucks, and everyone has to deal with it, but it's something that people can agree on easily.

Tupac was hip hop. Whether or not you like him is irrelevant. The genre of music he practiced was hip hop.

Also, I think that thing at the end is some ICP bullshit or something.

Google adsense scans the text of a web page to help determine what ad to show. They read the words "hip hop" and "rap" and then they assume the web page is about music.
