Ethiopia have us all figured out.

I call bullshit... 33 out of 100 places including numbers 1 and 2. http://www.guardian.co.uk/higher-education-network/2011/sep/05/top-100-universities-world-mathematics-2011
Looks like this restaurant gave the US the benefit of the doubt.
I meant 33 total places out of 100 spots... not 33rd.
You are only looking at math rankings by universities...of coarse prestige schools will rank higher than the general population of a country.
How many students at those schools are actually Americans?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2010/dec/07/world-education-rankings-maths-science-reading
Apparently the UK isn't much better?
Our reading skills aren't exactly looking good lol! Explains why my A-level English class was mostly filled with girls that thought that reading OK Magazine every time it came out made them an avid reader ¬__¬
However, we did well in science.
This is a better link: http://www.imo-official.org/results.aspx
Notices like the one in the picture would make me never want to go back.
That's the results of an Olympiad. The gathering of the smartest individuals. Still doesn't use the general public as a whole. You can't narrow down country intelligence by using only using your smartest people.
huh? so our smartest are smarter than their smartest... that translates to our average being smarter than their average. Is this better? They are ranked 11th in the world as to being most illiterate. Math is not that far behind. http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/eduillratbysexage15-illiteracy-rates-sex-aged-15
This explanation here is why our math is so low.
I provide facts, figures and links as evidence and you reply with a stupid comment. I relent... you and the internet win.
Having or smartest vs smartest does not equate average to average. Let's take 3 hypothetical people from 2 countries based on IQ
US- 116, 85, 70 Elsewhere- 110, 96, 85
By your standards because the US has an individual of 116, that clearly makes them smarter than Elsewhere, right?
Now if you AVERAGE out each country, it comes out to US- 90.33 Elsewhere- 97
This is even though Elsewhere doesn't have a proclaimed "Genius" like the US does. Your smartest people are not a direct proportion to your least smartest people. So yes, Feliks, I do win.
There are a few incorrect points in your argument:
1) Just like your previous stupid comment, your current reasoning included a person with an IQ of 70, which is considered to be mentally retarded by most professionals. I guess statistical outliers are fair game when making a point in math of all places...
2) Your theory of averages would hold up if the sample sizes were equal, but they are not considering every country has differently sized populations. With your logic, a country consisting of just three people with average IQs of 100 is just as smart as a country with 1 billion people having the same average IQ of 100.
3) It doesn't matter what you personally believe , how much you don't like it or how prejudiced you may be, the US is not bad at math let alone putting down trolls on internet message boards.
Fuck this shit... I'm out!
Is this argument implying we are not a nation of retards? Aside from that, IQ does not reflect math ability. It's not a lack of IQ that puts us so far behind in math, it's a lack of discipline and a lack of quality education, which can be blamed on the wages we give our educators. We pay our celebs ~ both sports and media~ as if they made a valuable contribution to progress as a society, and pay our teachers as if they aren't worthy of food on the table or a roof over their heads.
Here is somethingthat is clear, to the point, easy to read. It shows the US ranging between 25th and 28th in math (which is close enough for me as far as the restaurant's credibility is concerned) and even worse in science. Wanting the US to be #1 aint gonna make it so. See, we even suck balls at grammer two.
The US is god awful at math.
Still, never a good idea to insult your customers.
Your ability to operate on misinformation and poorly drawn conclusions is amazing. Especially since you believe that survey. Harvard is the most notorious perpetrator of grade inflation, meaning their math students are grossly unprepared for many math-heavy areas compared to M.I.T. and most UC schools.
ooookkkk... I didn't supply the research or choose the rankings, the british did. And I did not single Harvard out, I just noted that a lot of the schools in the top 100 are American, grade-inflation or not (which is all hyperbole anyhow).
Upvoted for the comments.
Since when was lemonade a soda?
