There are several different churches in Christianity. Presbyterian is a church group in Christianity. They are one of the protestant groups.

Odd, I live in a protestant stronghold and we have no Presbyterian... Evangelical, Methodist, others that I can't be bothered to remember, but no Presbyterian... Oh well.

We have one Catholic church to every 5 protestant churches ^____^

And now we have Mormon one... grumps

I wouldn't count Mormons as Christian - more like crazy cult. Have fun. They like to go door to door. I have Jehovah's witnesses down the road. I see them going door to door in their skirts when there is a freaking blizzard. Very devoted. lol

I know, I'm just saying they're a new addition to our area. I didn't realise it until they handed me their card saying I should get in touch when I start believing in God. And I was like "noooooes, why are there Mormon here?!" They were dressed very sharply though.

I don't mind our Jehovah's Witnesses. We have hearty debates; Christianity VS Atheism. And they're very devoted. Very.

You're extremely ignorant then. Mormon's are Christians.

I don't even know how to argue that. There are numerous reasons why they aren't Christian. Sure they are a religion but they are not Christian. They follow a book "The Book of Mormon" which basically edits foundations laid in place by the Bible. I'm talking major foundations not details that other Christians argue about. The major one is God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit being one person. So Mormons accept Scripture writings outside of the Bible, teach doctrines that contradict the Bible, and hold to beliefs completely foreign to the teachings of Jesus and His apostles.

However, this is lolbrary. If I wanted to get in religious debates I would hang out with my inlaws more.

Mormons do believe in the bible. the subtitle of the book of mormon is "another testament of jesus christ" and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the only real requirement for being a Christian religion believing that Jesus is the savior?

The Presbyterian church was founded in Scotland and is primarily Scottish, and it was founded by John Knoxx. It replaces the idea of doing good with the fact that God has already determined whether or not we will go to Heaven, and it is our duty as good Christians to do tons of fucking work and not have fun. Very similar to Calvinism, which is was based off of.

They're the closest descendants of Calvinism. To give a rundown on that:

  1. Total depravity--no one can or wants to follow God on his/her own.
  2. Unconditional election--God picks who gets mercy outside of time; those who aren't picked supposedly get what they deserve.
  3. Limited atonement--Christ's sacrifice to atone for sins is enough to cover the sins of the elect. It'd cover more if there were more elect, but there aren't.
  4. Irresistible grace--the elect can't resist being saved.
  5. Perseverance of the saints--the elect stay that way til the end; any that pull out never were the elect to begin with.

A lot of Presbyterians believe in what's called "Four-Point Calvinism"--unlimited atonement, so anyone who believes gets his/her sins atoned, but no one would believe without intervention, so that's where the unconditional election butts in.

On a side note, I disagree with most of Calvinism, but that's just me. And now I'll leave it to some other half-wit to make some ignorant blanket statement about how stupid and depraved all Christians supposedly are.

All Christians are stupid and depraved, hurr hurr.

I don't mind Christianity. I just don't like the people who go "You don't believe in God... YOU WILL GO TO HEEEEEELL!" and those types. Really annoys me, it's my personal choice and I don't see why people should be so harsh about it. I don't ask people "Why do you believe in God?" so why should they ask me why I don't?

But, no, I don't mind religion. It's up to the individual to decide what they believe in. I just don't like the fanatics.

From the Christian's point, it's a delicate dance. On the one hand, you feel like the fate of someone's soul rests on his or her acknowledgment of God, so you feel like anything short of bringing someone to that acknowledgment is gross negligence. On the other hand, you respect that the other person determines his or her own path just as much as you determine yours and that you need to respect others' decisions hoping that they will respect your own. It's hard to balance on that line, but you can blunder pretty spectacularly on either side of it.

Tell me about it "You're an Atheist, you should kill yourself as you're going to go to Hell anyway." has been said to me.

The response "If I don't believe in God, what makes you think I believe in Hell?" didn't go down too well.

I sometimes like to ask, "why". Not to antagonize or to make them feel stupid but because I'm genuinely curious. I don't understand why they believe and I don't. I don't believe it is a personal choice either, you either believe or you don't. You can't force yourself to believe it if you don't.

We're Catholic, but my Mom had a much stricter education than I did, so she believes that dogs don't have any souls, either. Needless to say, we had a dog, and when she died, that's all I could think of. "Mom doesn't believe Roxy's going to heaven"..... That's why I love this so much!

I like this because someone told me they don't. While I'm an atheist, I don't like when humans have a superiority complex over animals. Some people act like animals are so insignificant. Does empathy only apply to other humans? If I were to believe in an omnipotent being that granted eternal life, I would hope that he granted it to all his innocent creations and wasn't biased in favor of humans. I hope my lost pets are in heaven!

Church is church. If you wan't to preach the truth don't go to church. Lies lies lies, it's all that every single religion is.

Photoshopped: All of the pictures are from the same angles exactly...only the words changed. Oh, and the cars in the background are always parked in the same spot, at the same time of day, with the exact same photographic imperfections.
