It isn't funny, sure. But it makes a statement. Not everything on this site has to be a fart joke...

It does make a statement, but a close friend of mine lost her uncle that day and more than a few friends have lost theirs over seas in the following wars. Excuse me for finding this just a tad distasteful.

"a close friend of mine lost her uncle that day"

This pisses me off. But not as much as this:

"and more than a few friends have lost theirs over seas in the following wars."

US politics are a bunch of bumbling idiots doing exactly what Bin Laden wanted...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/09/AR2010090904735.html?hpid=topnews

You're probably right that this isn't appropriate on a humor site, but everyone is so focused on not forgetting the terrible events of 9/11 that they forget A: why it happened and B: what's still happening (regarding these bullshit wars).

Sorry about my stupid rant. So far I've been lucky enough to not have lost anyone I've known personally, but I'd damn well like to keep it that way since I have a good friend in Afghanistan and I want his ass out of there.

It's all good, everyone has an opinion. Just cause we may not meet eye to eye doesn't make either of us wrong, we're just different. Best wishes to your friends. I'm sure he's got some good guys to his left and right taking care of him.

He is in the marines, if that is what you are asking. I don't know the lingo very well. He's actually the only close friend of mine that went into the military.

Yeah I hope so. Honestly I don't actually worry about him being injured in action so much as the mental trauma a lot of those guys are going through. PTSD is no joke, and I know it is much more common than anyone wants to admit. He's got a good head on his shoulders but seriously... anyone can fall victim to that stuff. Also, he's definitely the kind of guy who bottles shit like that up. Extremely stoic, and always had been.

I thought it was pretty funny in an ironic way. Sure your friend lost an uncle but how many Afghanis lost their lives due to the wars your government is pushing us into? Recently in the news 17 innocent civilians mowed down for no reason, and that is only one incident that has been reported. Americans have no right to complain about crimes against humanity until they talk criticize their government first.

On occasion bad people get put into positions that they don't belong in and sometimes the innocent get hurt. That was a very unfortunate event where people who were minding their own died. As for any other possible incidents that may have occurred, well that is up to you to speculate. As for other Afghans who have lost their lives, they did so at the hands of their own people through IED and suicide bomber attacks or they threatened the wrong soldier at the wrong time and that soldier deemed it appropriate to use lethal force. I think we can both agree that taking a life is best avoided but rest assured, if I was staring down the barrel of an AK-47 and I was faced with making a split choice to take his life or give him mine, I wouldn't waste time trying to come up with a diplomatic solution.

First of all he made the conscious decision to run around and slaughter innocents. Second it is more than just speculation because the Afghani government has come out and said other incidents like this have happened with nothing done about it. The middle east is full of history with sectarian violence you are correct - exactly why they don't need America financing different sides, aiding rebellions, and directly intervening in bringing down established order to replace it with ones more friendly to their American interests. The image is funny because as you see every time America "frees" a nation a McDonalds is set up on every street corner and its culture is destroyed. That soldier that killed people was not facing the barrel of an Ak-47, he was sitting in his military base when he made that decision. Furthermore, most attacks made on the west and the USA by radical Muslims are due to our interference and subjugation in the middle east and most ironically of all the United States has funded many of these "terrorist" cells in the past to pursue our own needs - such as the American funding of the Taliban to resist the Soviets.

You seem to have misunderstood what I was trying to say so I'll clear it up. The man who slaughtered 17 innocent men, women, and children should be and will be punished for what he did. He wasn't threatened, he wasn't in harms way, he just snapped and it sucks. He is a monster and should be treated as such. However, one incident does not dictate the behavior of the military as a whole and it isn't your place to generalize something much bigger than yourself based on what you read in the news paper. Another thing that you don't seem to realize is that the Taliban overstepped their bounds as a government when they began terrorizing their own people and then deliberately and swiftly attacked our nation and killed nearly 3000 innocent civilians. They didn't do this because we interfered in anything, they did this because in their secular beliefs they are destined to exterminate anyone who does not follow the same Muslim beliefs as them. It's called Jihad, read a book. And I'm not justifying anything here, but you have the audacity to criticize a man for killing 17 civilians but find irony and brilliance in this crap? You have no idea what you stand for.

You clearly do not understand all the sectarian history that has been going on in the middle east for hundreds of years. I've already said there was problems, I criticized the United States of America for making it 10 times worse by arming and supporting sides (who commit crimes just like 9/11) for their own gains. It is needless to say that the USA had it coming.

Secondly, you need to read. Jihad is not about killing people with different beliefs it is about a spiritual struggle - it could mean any sort of struggle for a higher power.

The military should have no bases but bases here in the United States - end of story. How would you like it if China came here and set up a base in your back yard? One day a China man comes out and guns down your neighbor, maybe your girlfriend, maybe even your kid. Its okay you just accept the answer "Well, not all Chinese soldiers are like that". Get real. U.S. Imperialism is the cause of these terrorist attacks.

Even if you didn't know someone, you can still find it a "tad distasteful." It goes from being a statement to tacky when the description says "lol."

As an American, I do admit that this may be offensive, but I have no problem with it. The same Americans that laugh at jokes revolving around the tragedy of other nations, such as Hitler, the riots in the middle East, and the economic collapse of areas in the Euro zone, find this horrendous topics. It's disgustingly hypocritical.
