There's nothing funny about a physically fit man.

Cry me a river, that's reality. No one wants to be fat - it's an undesirable trait - health risks aside, it's because it's disgusting.

The very fact that you call me out on some PC acceptance of fatness is the reason that so much of the population's obese.

Obesity is unhealthy, of course. It's undesirable and unacceptable in society. And that's why you feel you're able to spread your hate. Your hate is disgusting.

Au contraire - being fat is unfortunatelly perfectly fine in our society - because so many are fat, and so on. The vicious cycle won't stop until the population will no longer be brainwashed by the fast food industry.

Do you know how hard it is for obese people to get a job? To rent apartments? I'm not sure about the US since I haven't lived there in a while, but in Germany you're not taken seriously. And instead of looking down at those that need help, and pushing them further into said vicious cycle because they already feel bad enough about themselves, we should accept them as human beings. Just because someone is overweight doesn't mean they don't have feelings... anyways, it's my birthday today and I'm sick of this because it's not leading anywhere, good day to you.

Interesting - I've looked up Germany's obesity stats (http://www.healthhabits.ca/2009/07/15/how-fat-is-your-country/) and they aren't that far behind the US, so it's strange to see why they are more judgemental. If you're apartment hunting means that you're in a metropolitan area which always has fewer fat people - but overall how does it compared to the States? It is by far the most acceptant than any other country I've lived in myself.

Good day to you as well sir, but I'd rather be honest than two-faced.

That's a ma'am, first thing. And she's not two-face.

Right, obesity may be something American's don't want to confront, but Europeans are. And in Europe, people are a lot harsher on people who are overweight. One of the main reasons is that we have National Health Service, so people who are overweight spend more of the money which goes to the Health Service, which could be spent on other, "more important", things

Being fat is not necessarily something caused by food. There are medical conditions which cause rapid weight gain.

"Fat" is not necessarily a health risk. Too much weight and it damages your body, but it's individual to each person. Being under weight is a lot more dangerous.

Also, from what I've researched into America, people are really okay with being overweight, or are practically anorexic - there needs to be a happy medium.

But it's out of order for you to be "fat is repulsive". The majority of overweight people don't want to be overweight, but they get themselves into a rut which they can't dig themselves out of. Have you heard of this cycle "sad -> eats food -> gains weight -> gets yelled at/hated/bullied -> is sad -> eats food -> gains weight -> gets yelled at/hated/bullied -> REPEAT"?? It does not help anyone you saying "oh, fat is disgusting/repulsive", don't you think they feel bad enough already?!

I can explode if you want me to explode - that is not an "explosive" argument in the slightest. If I was exploding at you there would be a lot more block capitals and swearing in there.

being in a rut is also repulsive. it keeps people from wanting to connect to you. instead of asking others to accept how I am and not doing enough to be accepted through my actions is just selfish. I know because thats what I did and sometimes still do. Though accepting it helps a lot. So the haters do serve a purpose even if it isnt pretty. But thats just keeping it in context.

Not everyone chooses to be fat nor is it always the fault of the fast food industies. Prader-Willi, Chohen and Cushing Syndrome, Eating disorders (Which is classified under mental disorders, so don't play the society puts pressure on people to be that way card), Medications, just to start off the list. Don't be so quick to blame the falts of industry. Know your facts.

society or people themselves, doesn't matter who puts the pressure on it's still not permanent if you know what to change and have the patience. And industry, thats exactly the right direction to look into. Theres many industries that make money from fat, not just the food sector. Facts and such yeah...

I didn't know Medical Disorders were temporary. Let us just fix those mutated gemes. While we are at it, let's cure Down's Syndrome

Some medical disorders can be temporary or "fixed" through medical intervention.

Eating disorders are a medical disorder, and they're something that is temporary with the right treatment. Depression is a disorder, and it can be treated. Thus, temporary.

And actually, a lot of eating disorders can be directly related to media and society. So yes, they can be the ones to apply excess pressure to look a certain way and people react that way.

There are loads of things that need to be taken into account before people can be labelled fat and lazy. Not everything is societies fault, not everything is the person's fault. It's usually a multitude of issues that combine into being one big problem.

Did you know Marilyn Monroe was between (modern) American sizes 10-16 throughout her career? Bet you'd never call her disgusting.

Also, stop trolling.

I don't find her particularly attractive, and I think that there were prettier actresses during the 50s. That's my taste, however, and is irrelevant in the matter.

I'll give you a quote:

" Heavily built and massive, there was a suggestion of uncouth physical inertia in the figure, but above this unwieldy frame there was perched a head so masterful in its brow, so alert in its steel-gray, deep-set eyes, so firm in its lips, and so subtle in its play of expression, that after the first glance one forgot the gross body and remembered only the dominant mind. "

That's Arthur Conan Doyle describing Sherlock Holmes' brother - who was rumored to be based on Oscar Wilde. He wasn't repulsed with the person (just like I never said I was if you read my first post), but the body's still "gross".

Are you aware that in those times, "gross" also meant "large" "bulky" "expansive" etc? In fact, in those times it did not mean "repulsive". It's the same with the word "faggot"; it's original meaning is "bundle of sticks", nothing to do with homosexually. Only in recent times has that meaning changed.

Interpretations aside - let's have a fact based discussion - I've read AC Doyle's books. Sherlock often makes comments about his brother's weight problem, asks how his diet is going, and blames it only on his indolence. With that said, he never questions his intelligence, and has said that he would be a better detective than himself if he didn't love so much smoking his pipe and reading the newspaper in his club.

Pretty much an archetypal computer nerd, no? I bet the reason that I'm getting bombed with downvoters is because they, like Mycroft Holmes, like nothing more than surfing the internet in their forums. Maybe while smoking a pipe as an homage.

Or, maybe, because you're coming across as a bit of a dick. Instead of wording things in an objective way, you're being really quite nasty about it.

And frankly, that's more repulsive than any excess weight.
