I'm not sure a cat's primary motivation in life is food...that's definitely a dog thing. Any input on this?
Well I've known some pretty food-crazed cats in my life! My best friend's cats go nuts as soon as you go into the kitchen and it's anywhere close to breakfast or dinner time! And cats also love to eat whatever they find on kitchen counters, tables, in bowls, in cups..
I don't know--I'd argue a cat's primary motivation in life is stalking and killing prey. I think that's what they get THE most pleasure out of. Just ask yourself, what do cats get more excited about: cat food or a bird chirping on the windowsill? They get pretty excited about both, but I'm sure one is a clear winner.
Yeah, that's true! Cats are definitely hunters. that's why they like hunting down mice, but then rarely eat them. Maybe we should differentiate between house cats and cats that are allowed to roam free!
Agree with Bulmilala. Definitely depends on the cat--my sister's cat is ENTIRELY motivated by food. My own cat is entirely motivated by attention from me. Other cats I've known have been motivated by unseen and inexplicably erratic forces beyond our comprehension.
Loving the last sentence! Cats are just mysterious.
Have you ever shaken a bag of food in a house with a lot of cats?
Ever seen a cat stare a bird down so intently, pupils engulfing it's eyes as it chirped at it with anticipation and blood-lust? I tell you, one has more passion than the other.
I had 4 cats I've seen it all, and they love meal time.
Some cats are motivated by food, some by attention, some by hunting and some by MURDER!
Definitely, my first cat was very keen on murder - he couldn't get the birds so he would lurk on the stairs out of view and trip us on our way down...
Second cat - adored attention
Third cat - hunted anything and everything. Stationary or not.
Sister's cat - food
