This is a great way to explain Buddhism, but I'm afraid without more background, people might misconstrue it as a justification for karmically-negative things. Just food for thought, but make sure when considering this that you know it's true for every other being as well.

So far it's a crap story.

It's a good possibility you didn't take that one quest for that one dungeon to defeat that one boss with the epic loots.

i.e. your teacher's/boss' office for that unfairly graded test/missed promotion.

Damn! I knew I should have gone to university! That's the only quest I've turned down

Yeah I agree. I'm not an NPC, don't treat me like one.

I think you are, and the challenge with you that I must face is convincing you of your true nature.

Would an NPC have the name StephenCockKing?

I think not!

With a huge dose of narcissism to go with it. NPCs are a means to an end--they usually have an item, an event trigger, or some humorous quip or easter egg that the programmers thought you'd appreciate. Other people should just be ends in themselves.

This NPC is definitely an end.

From one of my favorite games (that most people seem to hate) Zelda 2!

Why does this make me think of Dr. Oppenheimer saying, "I am become death"?

The Doc Opp version is much sadder though :(

Of course you don't have to care about pesky NPCs like friends and family, cuz everything is just like Final Fantasy! Sure if life is too hard go to your local forest and fight some monsters to gain a few levels. Can't figure out what to do next, have you talked to everyone in town.. twice? Get jumped and killed by a reaming pack of Lobos, no worried just load your last saved game. Accedently kill an NPC, oh well they're not even real anyway..... but wait, LIFE ISN'T A F'ING RPG YOU EGOCENTRIC DELUSIONAL MENTALLY DEFICIENT INDIVUALS!!!!

Get over it, The point of this post is to make the statement that no one else matters in the end, it's your life, live it as you see fit.
