ONLY a 20th of a point?

I think he/she meant the paper just lost 1 of the total 20 points. The professor just wrote it like a dumbass.

Or maybe because it was "guesstimated" about 1/20 of an inch short so he/she took off 1/20 of a point?

Either way this teacher is a douche.

could've been the printer off a bit...who fucking cares?...It's like 1/64th" off. Teacher is a douche! We supposed to measure our papers now, even though the margins are set at 1". Oh, and 1" margins are waste of paper.

I'd never do this, I'd sooner spit in the teachers face and dive out the second story window (Again) then deal with this BS.

Its actually whether he knew how to set the margin automatically or just guessed when he typed the paper. My English teacher did that to us

It's actually also possible that the kid knocked his word processor off the default 1" by accidentally dragging the margin when he tried to highlight something for cutting and pasting, or while trying to get the outline format right, and just didn't notice. I generally do this at least once a paper.

Or maybe there was a page limit on the assignment and he tried to increase the amount of text that fits per page.

But then it would make sense if he had the margin wider, he has it less wide.

The page limit has different effects in different levels of study. In high school the page limit is the Minimum amount of pages you need to write, so wider margin will help just as you have said. But in University, it is the Maximum number of pages, which reduces the amount you can write and is an issue in most of the cases.

The inch starts after the 0 line, so it's even closer
