This will be easy for me, I already don't generally buy media other than my netflix subscription (and I want to support streaming media).
There's more than enough cool free stuff on the internet to ever need to buy additional entertainment.
True enough. I just read that list and realized I can't afford that stuff anyway.
The funny thing is, good libraries have lots of awesome media content for those who are against pirating.
Makes me wonder though, will libraries ever be allowed to own digital copies of media on a server, and stream it out over the internet to one person at a time? Is this already legal? That would be pretty awesome... A free, totally legal, digital library where, sure you had to "wait in line" to be able to see stuff, but then you had access to streaming that content for 1 day.
ASU's library has online versions of some textbooks, and I was able to download a book for one of my classes for free. I'm sure lots of schools have this (accidental) feature, and I'm sure what I did was technically illegal. But $150 for no reason? Yeah right, that publishing company can suck my balls.
Don't even get me started on the bullshit textbook companies pull. They come out with a new edition each year so students always have to buy new, and the new edition has like 3 new pictures and a paragraph of new text...
I'm up for saving some money for a month.
Mass Effect 3 comes out 3/6/12 which makes this an impossible thing to do.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I'm personally waiting for Soul Claibur 5, which is just a couple weeks away :(
Just spend the money you would have spent on media elsewhere. Like beer and hookers for starters.
Wait.... Beer and hookers for starters? If that's only the start I want to know what happens next...
I wish I could tell you, but I can't remember a damn thing, it's all black after that.
what about all the innocent people who work in these sectors who will be adversely affected? i used to work in a small privately owned cinema, something like this would put them out of business for good...
4 weeks won't hurt any particular business. The idea is to send a scare the way of the large corporations that collect their annual income reports in late March/ early April. I understand your concern, but fiscally, they shouldn't be too damaged, especially with the surge of people that will attend the movies in April. Also, if they don't see a lot of business, small, privately owned establishments have the option of decreasing operating costs, where large companies don't usually have that privilege without said income reports.
small privately owned cinemas barely make any money as is because so much money goes to the film companies anyway, i know with the last harry potter film 96% of all ticket revenue went straight to the film company. 4 weeks of no revenue would break a business like that
This is fucking retarded, and almost impossible in our day and age. Wouldn't watching TV contribute to these companies also?? Notice how it leaves that out because its almost impossible. No one is going to do this
Watching television would see no adverse effect on their profit margin because companies actually already lose television placing ads in the market. Watching television is perfectly okay.
deal. I have all the music i already want, i never go see movies anyways (forever alone ;_;) , and i don't buy DVD's... only play games i already have, so i'll just keep doing what i am doing. easy enough
I mostly agree, but I'll continue to support the companies that stood in opposition to SOPA (like Riot Games, for example).
ah well of course I'd support those companies.
And this is the reason our economy flops. Spending is good. SOPA and PIPA are gone so dont bother.
The concept of Black March isn't about SOPA nor PIPA. Black March is an activity many people have been trying to engage in for quite some time for the sheer fact that we aren't acknowledged as a part of the economic system. We're seen as walking stacks of easy money.
I am a creator of artistic works, but I have about one week to make money on my creations before copies are all over the internet for free. The only people making money on music are companies like Megaupload. Feds seized over $40 million assets of Megaupload? They don't have any of their own assets...
Yeah, you pretty much have to expect your content to be shared freely. But using that knowledge, is there a way you can use this to your advantage? IE, grow your fanbase and do a bit of touring? I was under the impression live shows was where musicians made real money.
